Today we talked about our bodies.
We said that: My body belongs to me, and no one can touch it unless I say so.
The message is to give students ownership, and therefore control, of their bodies.
As part of this we discussed the correct names for different parts of our bodies, including genitalia.
I thought the children were very respectful during this discussion especially as I know it was difficult or a little bit embarrassing for some. As one child said afterwards, "It felt a bit like being travel sick."
There is a worksheet that comes home as part of the students' Home Book. I would encourage parents to use the correct terminology at home when discussing it. Also reinforce the My Body Belongs to Me message.
