Marty's Visit

Today for news John brought his pet cat Marty to visit our classroom.

John got him from the SPCA and he is four and a half months old. Marty has a microchip under his skin so if he gets lost you can find out where he lives. He is called Marty because John's cousin's cat is called Marty as well and they look the same.
The cat has soft fluffy fur and he's got little claws. He looks like Ellie's cat Spuddy. He is a tabby and he has black and grey stripes.

Here is another story of Matariki.

Friday's Assembly

What a great job everyone did at Friday's assembly. We got a lot of congratulations from the other teachers.
So well done everyone! Especially those who covered the gaps for those who had to go home sick after lunch.

Shrink the Solar System

Today we shrank the sun to the size of a marble. All the rocky planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) are close to the sun. All the gas planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) are further away.  Even at this scale Neptune was still 45.26m away from the sun. Charlie
Caleb and John worked out that the nearest star (Alpha Centauri) to the sun would be near Te Kauwhata. It is only slightly bigger than the sun and is 406km away!

Your job is to find Te Kauwhata on a map.

Solar Flares

Today Amelia shared news about solar flares. We looked at some videos from You Tube and this is our favourite.
Dominic liked it when the flares were so huge.
The flares looked like a big wave crashing down - Charlie
